About the role
A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. They perform various tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with mobility, eating, and hygiene, collecting samples, reporting changes in a patient's condition, and helping with patient walks.
Responsibilities
- Check temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
- Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat
- Collect samples like urine
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse
- Help with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, vitals
- Work under the supervision of a nurse to ensure safety and correctness
- Assist with paperwork and other tasks to keep the hospital running smoothly
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained during orientation if not already held)
- No previous job experience required, but one of the following is preferred:
- Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training
- Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (like taking their temperature, bathing them, or helping them use the restroom)
- Currently in nursing school and finished one clinical rotation

- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and remain courteous
