About the role
The Patient Care Specialist plays a key role in supporting the health center staff at Brighton NY's Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY). PPCWNY is dedicated to providing health care and education that empowers individuals and families, respecting everyone regardless of their background.
Responsibilities
- Handle the intake process independently, including greeting patients, verifying information, checking in/out, and assisting with forms and releases.
- Accurately record data in the Electronic Health Record, including vital signs and medical/family/social history.
- Perform routine tests and provide patient support during exams.
- Prepare and set up exam rooms, clean and store supplies, and assist with surgical abortion services.
- Operate telephones, maintain a clean work area, and interface with Phreesia.
- Assist with patient referrals, scheduling, and completing insurance forms.
- Provide emergency contraceptives and birth control, review charges, and complete CVR data entry.
- Provide excellent customer service, handle clerical duties, and participate in training.
- Travel to other sites as needed and participate in affiliate initiatives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, with a Medical Assistant certification desired.
- 2-4 years of experience in a clinical role.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to handle client information discreetly and prioritize tasks.
- Organized, able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and use of Electronic Health Records.
- Experience in customer service is desirable.
- Able to work a flexible schedule and travel to multiple sites as needed.
- Proficiency in two or more languages is preferred.

- Ability to lift 25 pounds and possess sufficient mobility to perform essential functions.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Medical Assistant certification desired.
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a clinical role.
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Organized, able to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects, excellent customer service and communication skills, able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, able to juggle multiple priorities, basic computer skills, experience in customer service desirable, able to work a flexible schedule, and travel to multiple sites as needed.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without an accommodation, possess sufficient mobility to perform essential functions, may experience visual fatigue working at a computer with potential extended periods of sitting.

- Pay range: $20.71 to $24.05/hour.
