Patient Care Nursing Assistant – Med/Surg

About the Role

Marymount Hospital, serving Garfield Heights and the Southeast communities of Cuyahoga County, is an acute care, faith-based hospital guided by Christian values of service, compassion, dignity, and respect. The 4 East and 4 West Med/Surg and Telemetry Units provide specialized care: 4 East (13 beds) focuses on patients with oncology history and hematology disorders, while 4 West (15 beds) specializes in peritoneal dialysis diagnosis and treatment. Patients are seen by a caregiver within 15 minutes of arrival, with a comprehensive assessment provided within 8 hours.

As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), you will provide or assist with basic patient care under RN supervision, ensuring exceptional care and optimal health outcomes in a diverse and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including vital signs, weight, personal care, activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Nursing students who have completed a minimum of one clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program may substitute the clinical rotation for experience.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must be obtained prior to hire for nursing students).
• Demonstrated competencies in professional, technical, and clinical knowledge domains.
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at a minimum junior high level.

Preferred Qualifications

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).

Physical Requirements

• Full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and/or negligible to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

Works days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

Pay

Pay range for new hires: $18.25 – $24.95 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement contributions).
