About the role
The fast-paced 2100 Clinical Decision Unit treats a wide range of concerns, from general pain to complex diagnoses. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant on the team, you play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. Responsibilities
- Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for admission, returning surgical patients, transfers or emergencies.
- Provide and document assigned care (e.g., bathing, changing and/or refreshing of bed linens, dressing/undressing of patient, back rubs, etc.) and other general care throughout the day to ensure physical comfort.
- Collect and document temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, height and intake/output in an accurate and precise manner.
- Assist with pre- and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
- Perform treatment procedures (e.g., venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice packs and heat, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, sets-ups overhead trapeze and Buck's traction, removal of urinary Foley Catheters and other therapeutic measures).
- Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
- Prepare patients for meals, assist in feeding patients if necessary and distribute water and other nourishments according to patient needs in compliance with physician orders.
- Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area.
- Absorb and distribute unit linen and supplies.
- Report any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patient.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period
- Job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Qualifications
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification
- One year of recent acute care experience
Skills
- Full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
