Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) - Medical ICU

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a proud Magnet Hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and provide stellar care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The MICU is a 26-bed unit treating patients with conditions such as sepsis, altered mental status, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), stroke, post-cardiac arrest hypothermia, and those requiring suicide or overdose monitoring. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will coordinate with caregivers to create a welcoming and healing environment while pursuing educational advancement and career growth opportunities.

Schedule

This role works days from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including vital signs, weight, personal care, activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must obtain during new hire period if not already certified).
• Nursing students: must have BLS certification prior to hire and have completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program (may substitute for required experience).
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
• Proficient in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level.

Preferred Qualifications

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).

Physical Requirements

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination, and involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $18.25 to $24.95 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic's benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement contributions).
