Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) - Medical ICU

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility, and work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), a 26‑bed unit caring for patients with sepsis, altered mental status, diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, post‑cardiac arrest hypothermia, as well as those requiring suicide and overdose monitoring. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will help create a welcoming, healing environment and have opportunities for educational advancement, higher positions, and skills‑development courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision, including vital signs, weight, personal care, activities of daily living, and patient transfers/transport.
• Perform pulse oximetry, point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, apply external monitoring devices, and remove urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or obtain during the new‑hire period.
• For nursing students: BLS certification required prior to hire; may substitute a recent clinical rotation for required experience.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth‑grade level.

Preferred qualifications

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.

Physical requirements

Full‑body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye‑hand coordination, extensive standing and walking. Medium work – exerting 20–50 lb of force occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly. Physical demands exceed those for Light Work. Must follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

Days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Pay

Minimum hourly: $18.25 – Maximum hourly: $24.95. The range reflects anticipated new‑hire rates; actual compensation will consider work history, experience, skill set, and education. The range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions, etc.).
