Patient Care Nurse Assistant - Med/Surg

About the role

Cleveland Clinic's Medina Hospital, a 148-bed community-based hospital providing top-quality patient care for over 75 years, is seeking a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) for the 3 South General Medicine Unit. This 32-bed unit specializes in general medical/surgical care and observation for adult and geriatric patients, delivering care for conditions including pneumonia, diabetes, sepsis, GI bleed, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstructions, hysterectomies, thyroidectomies, colon resections, and appendectomies. As a PCNA, you will assist and provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), involving heavy patient contact including ADLs and ambulation assistance. This role requires familiarity with identifying basic changes in patient status and the ability to be flexible and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (must obtain during new hire period if not already held)
• Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Preferred qualifications

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Schedule

Nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Physical requirements

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination
• Involves extensive standing and walking
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Pay

Minimum hourly: $18.25. Maximum hourly: $24.95. The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation determined after considering work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic's benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
