About the role
The Patient Care Imaging Assistant is responsible for assisting Radiologists and Technologists by providing patient care activities including preparation for radiology procedures and preparing images for interpretation by the Radiologist. This position involves maintaining high-quality medical care through various patient care activities such as patient preparation, transporting patients, stocking supplies, and scheduling continued care.
Principal Responsibilities
- Maintain optimum patient flow by preparing scanning rooms for patient exams, including cleaning, disinfecting, and stocking supplies.
- Maintain departmental logs to ensure adherence to DMG Safety/OSHA cleaning standards.
- Escort patients to/from scanning rooms and assist in obtaining pertinent information, including weight, height, medical history, medications, reason for visit, and patient symptoms.
- Communicate pending pre-certification information issues with technologists and Radiology management.
- Collect information from labs and surgery/implant reports based on need and direction.
- Provide patients with after-exam instruction and exam media.
- Schedule continued care procedures using Radiology Information System. Verify insurance eligibility. As needed, explain patient prep and dispense prep kits and schedule interpreter services.
- Absorb and communicate information from technologists regarding positioning, lifting of patients, and contrast preparation.
- Place EKG leads for certain cardiac-related exams.
- May assist with setting up coils or phantom handling.
- Carry out CPR in patient emergency situations.
- Complete order process in Radiology Information System.
- Use PACS, RIS, and IDX (including chart tracking) to gather patient history for technologists.
- Make appointment reminder calls to Radiology patients.
- Use computers and telephone as required.
- Function efficiently using computers and telephone.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- High school graduate or GED required.
- One-year training in medical office; recent ambulatory care experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates
- Current CPR per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

- Must be able to wear lead apron for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Computer skills.
Working Environment
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
- Exposed to fumes from cleaning agents or x-ray film processor chemicals, in limited areas.
- Exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
- Travel to other sites may be required.
