About the role

Provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, recording vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility
  • Performs unit-based specialty duties as assigned
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to the nurse
  • Provides high-level customer service to patients, patient’s family, visitors, and all employees
  • Documents patient care accurately, precisely, and in a timely manner
  • Communicates professionally, verbally and in writing, at all times

Work Experience

  • Recent experience in an acute care and/or long-term care facility (preferred)

Required Skills

  • Ability to clearly communicate with other members of the healthcare team
  • Ability to understand and follow directions from the healthcare team
  • Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (e.g., falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care)
  • Infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
  • Understanding of clerical duties and office-based technology
  • Team dynamics
  • Patient data collection and documentation (e.g., vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition)
  • Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care
  • Feeding, hydration, and nutrition support
  • Assistance with bowel and bladder elimination
  • Assistance with ambulation and patient mobility
  • Use of clinical technology
  • Compassionate, relationship-based approach to care activities
  • Accountability for completion of assigned tasks
  • Escalation of concerns via chain of command

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (preferred)

Education

  • High School Diploma (preferred)

Schedule

  • Shift: Afternoons/Nights
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 48 hours per pay period
  • Weekend, holiday, and on-call rotation required per department policy
