Patient Care Associate-Rehab-Full Time Day 7am-3:15pm-MSM

About the Role

The Patient Care Associate is an integral part of the clinical care team, responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient-focused care within the Specialty Service. This role supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, including assisting patients with daily living, collecting specimens, performing procedures, and maintaining a safe, clean environment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical, technical, service, and administrative tasks.
• Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-related criteria for patients.
• Performs and records patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations).
• Documents intake and output and other assigned data.
• Obtains patient pain ratings as a fifth vital sign (except in Pediatrics).
• Performs clinical procedures such as specimen collection (blood glucose, venipuncture), EKG, application of compression devices, post-mortem care, and skin integrity maintenance.
• Assists with patient activities of daily living (feeding, bathing, toileting).
• Orients patients to the clinical environment and assists with ambulation and mobilization.
• Supports dietary functions, including delivering trays, assisting with menu completion, and reporting eating pattern variations.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and functional environment, including patient comfort and room maintenance.
• Performs one-to-one or close observation of patients (e.g., safety, elopement risk, suicide prevention).
• Maintains isolation status for patients under RN direction.
• Conducts hourly care checks/rounding, emphasizing toileting, comfort, positioning, and pain awareness.
• Utilizes Vocera system/Mount Sinai phone according to sign-in/sign-out protocols.
• Transports patients, delivers trays, flowers, and specimens, and performs emergency clean-up and transport.
• Performs discharge bed making, updates communication boards, and assembles medical records.
• Updates Admission/Transfer/Discharge systems and maintains supplies and equipment.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and maintains patient/employee confidentiality.
• Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, and respect in interactions with patients, families, and staff.
• Greets visitors, answers telephones, and escorts visitors as needed.
• Answers patient call systems and refers calls to appropriate staff.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (or equivalent).
• Certificate of completion from a medical assistant/patient care assistant program with skills in venipuncture and EKG.
• Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with the clinical team.
• Documentation of Medical Assistant/Patient Care Associate training.
• Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred.
• Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and use judgment in difficult situations.
• Sufficient oral and written English language skills.
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity for assigned tasks.
• American Heart Association Heartsaver or BLS Certification.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $27.8502 - $29.8773 per hour, depending on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation.

Schedule

Full-time, Day shift: 7:00 AM - 3:15 PM.
