About the role

The Patient Care Associate (PCA)/Behavioral Health Associate (BHA) provides basic patient care in a psychiatric or medical-surgical environment under the direction of licensed nursing staff. This role applies knowledge of patient growth and development in interactions with patients and families, ensuring safe, quality care.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene activities such as bathing, grooming, and skin care.
• Support patients with ambulation, transfers, and turns.
• Maintain a clean and orderly patient environment to promote safety and infection prevention.
• Notify clinical staff of any changes in a patient’s condition or safety concerns.
• Apply infection control concepts and techniques.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions, activities, behaviors, and safety concerns using computerized documentation systems.
• Take vital signs and perform phlebotomy (blood draws) and glucose checks.

Training
