About the role
The Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (i.e. personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines; a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN; and under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or LPN. The plan of care will utilize the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control as well as the Singing River Health System Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. All performed duties are expected to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN.
- Follow predefined guidelines and the established plan of care.
- Adhere to CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and Singing River Health System’s nursing care plans.
- Perform duties in accordance with SRHS procedures, policies, and accreditation standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred (required upon hire for SNF unit).
- Apprentices transferring to SNF will be allowed 120 days to schedule the skills exam; if not obtained within 120 days, removal from the SNF unit will occur.
- Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Must complete de-escalation training by the end of position orientation (90 days).
- Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required.
Physical Demands
- Moderately active work involving sitting, moving about the facility, and traveling within the SRHS service area.
- Exerting negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
- Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers (e.g., operating a computer keyboard).
- Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine discriminations in sound.
- Close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus (e.g., shifting gaze from a computer monitor to printed material).
- Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
- Must be able to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, or weekends, with potential changes based on hospital needs.

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
