About the role

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) under the supervision of the Nursing Manager and the Clinical Coordinator or a Licensed/Registered Nurse, provides care to patients on the Medical/Surgical Unit. The PCA supports medical care objectives, adheres to hospital policies, mission, and nursing department philosophy. They also provide constant observation for patients requiring such care and offer clerical support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care
  • Support medical care objectives
  • Adhere to hospital policies and nursing department philosophy
  • Provide constant observation for patients requiring constant monitoring
  • Offer clerical support for clinical unit functions

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Experience in an accredited healthcare facility preferred
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant by the Texas Department of Health (CNA), or other relevant certifications as listed
  • Knowledge of basic clinical skills to deliver direct patient care
  • Accepts assigned responsibilities as an accountable member of the health care team
  • Proficient with data entry/computer skills for care documentation

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Relevant work experience in lieu of high school diploma/GED
  • Experience in an accredited healthcare facility preferred
  • Any one of the following certifications/licenses: CNA, Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT), Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed Paramedic, U.S. Military Hospital Corpsman training, EMT program completion, Patient Care Technician program completion, formal nursing assistance program completion, foreign nursing program graduate with nursing credentials/licensure in country of origin, one year of experience in direct patient care in an acute care setting, graduate of a healthcare related field, BLS certification through the American Heart Association
