Job Description
The Clinical Assistant at UofL Health provides clinical patient care support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position collaborates with patients and families to deliver care while adhering to the hospital's mission and values.
Essential Functions
- Delivers successful service by demonstrating accountability and commitment to quality and safety standards, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Performs delegated nursing skills, including activities of daily living, monitoring of patient condition, body mechanics, providing nutritional support, and other activities as appropriate to clinical service.
- Communicates performance of delegated skills to the patient’s Registered Nurse and other members of the healthcare team.
- Performs functional assignments per unit standards of care, including patient admission and discharge procedures, unit environmental organizational tasks, and others as appropriate to service.
- Performs and documents point-of-care testing, patient mobility and exercise, comfort, rest, sleep and care needs, patient hygiene, grooming, dressing, skincare, dietary, toileting and elimination needs.
- Affords assistance with transport.
- Performs clerical duties, using a fax machine, computers, medical transcription, telephone, and copy machines as needed.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Other Functions
- Participates in training, development, and continuing education activities to improve role functioning.
- Participates in department-based activities and initiatives to improve and ensure a safe environment.
- Assists in performance improvement activities, quality improvement, and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
- Communicates effectively with members of the health care team, patients, and families, often under stress or emergency situations.
- Affords assistance to other members of the nursing care team and/or other disciplines.
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required).
- Experience in healthcare setting (preferred).
Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required).
- State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (preferred).
