Patient Care Assistant /Certified Nursing Assistant Med Surg Medical 2 (5 East) Part-Time-Days

About the role

Newport News, Virginia. Part‑time position (Days 7am‑7pm) working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director to provide personal care for hospital patients and maintain a safe environment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills to provide age‑appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and promoting patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
• Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
• Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
• Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN (e.g., enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc.).
• Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system.
• Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions.
• Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN, including accurately completing all required documentation.
• Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year prior experience in an acute health care setting (preferred).
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP).
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT‑B (Basic) from VDHP or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or currently enrolled in an LPN or RN diploma/degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed.
  • CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) upon hire (required) OR CPR/BLS Instructor – same agencies upon hire (required).

Pay

Hiring range: $16.80 – $21.83 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Schedule

Part‑time, days 7 am – 7 pm.
