Physical Requirements
- Able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Able to push a stretcher/wheelchair with an average adult patient.
- Able to stoop, crawl, and kneel on occasion.
- Able to reach reasonably distances in any direction.
- Able to run in emergency situations.
- Able to move fingers in a coordinated manner.
- Able to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape, and size with fingertips.
Responsibilities
- Observe patients carefully to alert the clinical staff of any changes.
- Ensure patients’ rooms are clean and tidy.
- Change cardiac monitor batteries at 7am.
- Document patient bedside rounds every two hours.
- Document patient vital signs every four hours.
- Perform daily glucometer quality control tests (night shift).
- Bathe patients daily.
- Replace EKG pads daily during baths.
- Change linens daily.
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Obtain and document blood sugars for diabetic patients.
- Stock isolation caddies in halls and rooms for the next shift.
- Empty trash from assigned rooms as needed and before shift change.
- Answer call lights promptly.
- Initiate or continue pressure ulcer bundle and fall prevention protocols.
- Prepare rooms for admission.
- Update patient whiteboards daily.
- Perform daily bath on night shift.
- Provide fresh ice for dialysis/pre-procedural patients.
- Wipe down and stock vital sign machines for the next shift.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff.
- Accurately document care provided according to policies and procedures.
- Apply safety principles when performing care.
- Participate in cost-saving utilization of supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of high school education or equivalent.
- Approved previous experience in patient care or completion of in-service education classes.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- BLS certification required or achieved within first 90 days of employment.
