About the Role

This role is responsible for billing and follow-up activities to maximize reimbursement from Commercial, Government, Medicare, and third-party payors within Patient Financial Services (PFS). PFS manages revenue cycle functions including DNFB, billing, contract management, insurance follow-up, charge audit, denials, underpayments, and related operational and functional reporting and support for hospital/facility billing. The position ensures account information contains accurate and comprehensive data to provide timely billing and optimal reimbursement for services rendered.

Responsibilities

  • Billing and rebilling of complex accounts (30%)
  • Auditing, adjusting, and reconciliation of accounts (15%)
  • Researching billing discrepancies and payer responses (20%)
  • Problem-solving to resolve billing issues and denials (25%)
  • Adjusting accounts as needed (10%)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Previous billing experience in a healthcare environment
  • Ability to interpret payments, correspondence, and denials from insurance companies, agencies, and other departments
  • Independent decision-making skills to determine appropriate follow-up or billing actions
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Adaptability to changes in policies, procedures, and management
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external staff across business and clinical areas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic medical coding, HCPCS/CPT, and Revenue Codes
  • Demonstrated billing and collections experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to meet production and quality standards
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Remittance Advice (RA)
  • Accurate typing skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole and decimal numbers using a calculator
  • Skill in analyzing and interpreting payer regulations to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field
  • Epic experience
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems
  • Experience with hospital billing
  • Demonstrated experience with credit and self-pay collections and reconciliation
  • Experience with UB04 claims submission (paper and electronic)
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with frequently changing priorities and tight deadlines

Pay

Hourly pay range: $30.65 - $38.10

Schedule

Full-time (100%) position with an 8-hour shift. This role is hybrid, involving a mix of on-site and remote work.
