PATIENT ACCTS ASSOC
About the Role
Under the supervision of the Patient Financial Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for billing and collection of third-party claims, posting of billing and collection transactions, and ensuring appropriate self-pay liability on accounts up to and including final disposition of the account balance. All transactions must be completed in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
This role requires knowledge of self-pay and financial assistance policies and involves discussing accounts with patients and third parties responsible for payment. The position also determines the status for referral of accounts to external legal collections, with a top priority on quality customer satisfaction. If applicable to job duties, the role ensures all charges related to clinical trial research activities are billed appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Bill and collect third-party claims.
- Post billing and collection transactions.
- Ensure appropriate self-pay liability on accounts through final disposition.
- Discuss accounts with patients and third parties responsible for payment.
- Determine status for referral of accounts to external legal collections.
- Prioritize quality customer satisfaction.
- Ensure all charges related to clinical trial research activities are billed appropriately (if applicable).
Requirements
- High School completion or GED (minimum).
- Healthcare or Business associate’s degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of job-related experience.
- Two years of healthcare billing, collections, or access experience, or banking collections experience. An associate’s degree in healthcare or business can substitute for the two years of experience.
Skills
- Typing accurately at 25 words per minute (preferred).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, including debits and credits.
- Ability to alphabetize and compare names and numbers.
- Review work for detailed accuracy and completeness.
- Basic math skills, including percentages.
- Medical terminology (preferred).
- Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy.

Schedule
Varies / 8-hour shift length. Full-time, 80 hours per pay period.
