Patient Accounting Clerk
Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to review patient account files and ensure their accuracy and completeness; determine appropriate billing; monitor outstanding accounts in a timely manner; and receive and answer billing-related inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Review patient account files and ensure their accuracy and completeness
- Determine appropriate billing
- Maintain accurate records and monitor outstanding accounts in a timely manner
- Answer billing-related inquiries
- Accurately gather information to process each account
- Stay updated on insurance billing guidelines
- Provide patients with accurate information about payment alternatives and available resources
- Process and investigate denied claims for possible reprocessing
- Monitor admitting information for correct patient information
- File Inpatient and Outpatient insurance claims promptly and accurately following UB92 and 1500 guidelines
- Monitor patient accounts from the insurance filing process through the payment process to ensure accurate payment is made
- Keep claims up-to-date in billing software
- Show a courteous and professional attitude with patients, staff, and other contacts
Requirements
- Insurance experience required, specifically Rural Health and Method 2
- Proficiency in using computer programs
