About the Role
The Patient Account Customer Service Representative serves a critical role in the revenue cycle team by managing patient account inquiries and supporting the organization's financial health. This remote position acts as the first contact point for patients regarding billing, payment arrangements, refunds, and account resolution, thereby ensuring clear communication and effective management of patient accounts.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming patient calls professionally with accurate billing and account information
- Respond to voicemails and make outbound calls to resolve account discrepancies and payment inquiries
- Verify patient account accuracy including demographics, insurance, and claim details prior to billing
- Securely process patient payments in compliance with policies
- Manage self-pay credit balances and process refunds as needed
- Follow up on outstanding patient accounts to ensure timely payment and resolution
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient interactions and account activity
- Assist with additional duties as directed
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as established
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years experience in medical office, healthcare billing, or revenue cycle environment
- Preferred experience handling high call volumes in customer service
- Familiarity with Nextgen and SIS billing systems is a plus
- Knowledge of insurance billing, patient balances, and account reconciliation preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Understanding of medical billing terminology and patient account workflows
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to change while maintaining professionalism
