Position Summary

The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, responsible for ensuring accurate patient admission and registration. This intermediate-level clerical position will allow you to apply your professional service-orientation, good judgment and independent thinking in your daily work functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
  • Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
  • Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
  • Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third-party liability information
  • Perform eligibility verification and resolves any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary

Requirements

  • Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance Medical Billing & Insurance or an Associate Degree with six months of experience
  • One year of experience performing admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration or billing duties in a health care setting required
  • Customer service experience required

Pay and Benefits

  • We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off.
  • The pay scale is $21.47 - $31.20 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
  • If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
