Full-time, day shift with rotating weekends and holidays as needed.

About the role

Sheridan Community Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our front-line registration team. In this role, you are more than registration—you are the first interaction patients have with our hospital, ensuring a positive, welcoming experience while supporting efficient access to care.

  • Ensure accurate and timely patient registration
  • Verify insurance to prevent billing delays
  • Support smooth patient flow across departments
  • Deliver compassionate service from the very first interaction

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in person and by phone with professionalism and compassion
  • Answer multi-line phones and direct calls appropriately
  • Register patients accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Collect payments and explain financial responsibilities
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations
  • Assist with registration for Emergency, Outpatient, Lab, Imaging, and other services
  • Distribute and process required forms and documentation
  • Provide directions and support to patients and visitors
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous customer service experience required
  • Healthcare or clinical experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Ability to learn and navigate EHR systems
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Typing proficiency (minimum 50 WPM and high accuracy)
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and adaptable
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment
