Patient Access Specialist- PT- Holidays and Weekends

About the role

The Patient Access Specialist is a vital part of the hospital; they are the “first impression” of the health system. This person will greet patients by phone or in person with kindness and respect; by scheduling appropriately they will optimize both patient satisfaction and provider time. Great customer service is a must. This role is available on all shifts and in the two hospital locations where patient access is provided.

Responsibilities

• Answering multi-line phones and directing calls appropriately.
• Registering patients into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for services in the Emergency Department, Walk-In Clinic, Outpatient Clinic, Swing Bed, Critical Access Hospital, Lab, and X-ray Departments.
• Treating all patients and associates with respect, dignity, and providing professional service in a timely, polite, and considerate manner.
• Accurately completing registration tasks, distributing forms and paperwork to patients and medical staff to expedite patient care.
• Registering new patients and updating necessary records.
• Maintaining confidentiality of all patient records and following HIPAA requirements.
• Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Collecting payments.
• Greeting and checking-in patient visitors.
• Guiding patients/visitors to their destination in the facility.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Full understanding of HIPAA.
• A pleasant and outgoing personality to engage with others.
