About the role

The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulations. They are responsible for conducting quality interviews, gathering patient identification, confirming demographics, and managing patient consents.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors promptly and courteously.
  • Implement scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and perform intensive screenings for Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care patients.
  • Obtain all necessary consents and attestations for patients.
  • Perform functions such as facility-based scheduling, bed planning, pre-registration, registration, insurance verification, pre-certification, point-of-service cash collection, and financial clearance.
  • Adhere to the Medical Center's Quality Standards and maintain a positive patient experience.
  • Handle daily scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, and registration issues.
  • Complete assigned work queues efficiently and provide administrative information to patients.
  • Communicate with patients, parents, and caregivers in a way that is developmentally and educationally appropriate.
  • Resolve issues with coverage and escalate any complications to supervisors/managers.
  • Process payments and reconcile daily cash drawer transactions.
  • Contact patients and physicians' offices regarding Pre-Admission Testing scheduling.
  • Obtain and process patient records, copy, file, fax, and answer phone calls.
  • Work in various Access Services areas and rotate shifts as needed.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. They must also have good written and verbal communication skills, be customer service oriented, and possess basic medical terminology knowledge. Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms, is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent programs.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in patient financial services.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in medical terminology and insurance specifications.
  • Other: Bilingual skills (Spanish or Korean) are preferred, as are experience with EPIC HB, Cadence, and Prelude.
