Patient Access Specialist - Meridian

Starting pay: $18.28 (DOE)

About the role

This position is responsible for greeting, directing, and assisting patients and visitors in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner throughout their visit. The Patient Access Specialist schedules and registers patients, collects required data accurately, determines eligibility for services, and counsels patients regarding payment policies. They also monitor and collect monies due, manage the waiting room atmosphere, keep patients informed about wait times, and ensure a comfortable and clean waiting area.

Responsibilities

• Greet, direct, and assist patients and visitors professionally and courteously
• Schedule and register patients, ensuring accurate collection of required data
• Determine eligibility for services and counsel patients on payment policies
• Monitor and collect monies due
• Manage the waiting room atmosphere, including informing patients about wait times
• Maintain a comfortable and clean waiting area
• Perform basic bookkeeping tasks such as cash handling, posting charges, and deposits
• Navigate multiple computer software programs, including EHR, Microsoft Office, scanner, calculator, and multi-line telephone

Requirements

• Ability to provide strong customer service to a complex patient population
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic bookkeeping skills (cash handling, posting charges, and deposits)
• Proficiency in navigating multiple computer software programs
• Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a receptionist in a medical, dental, or social services setting
• Strong bookkeeping or accounting skills
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
