Patient Access Specialist - Full Time - Night
About the role
The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within the Patient Access Services Department. They are responsible for conducting quality interviews, gathering patient identification, confirming demographics, and managing various aspects of patient registration and insurance verification.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors promptly and courteously.
- Implement scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies.
- Ensure patient safety by performing intensive screenings and verifying patient identities.
- Conduct bed planning, reservations, and pre-registration tasks.
- Verify patient eligibility and obtain necessary consents/attestations.
- Process insurance verifications, pre-authorizations, and financial clearance.
- Communicate with patients and providers regarding financial responsibilities and insurance coverage.
- Coordinate daily activities and foster a positive patient experience.
- Resolve issues and escalate complex problems to supervisors.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scanning documents, filing, and answering phone calls.
- Manage daily workflow and ensure timely processing of patient accounts.
- Assist with pre-admission testing scheduling and patient record management.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Patient financial services experience preferred.
- Registration/insurance verification experience preferred.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or Korean) preferred.
- EPIC Cadence and Prelude training completed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a hospital setting.
- Knowledge of insurance specifications, ICD10 and CPT4 codes.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 300 lbs., and stand for 4 hours a day.
