About the role
This position is responsible for patient scheduling, registration, financial collections, and daily clerical support to ensure the delivery of primary care at Metro Community Health Center.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a high level of skill in building relationships and providing customer service
- Provide counsel, support, and advice to patients and their families
- Create new accounts by collecting registration data from new patients and setting up new patient charts within the EMR
- Maintain accuracy of patient insurance information for all new and recurring visits, including scanning insurance cards and updating income verification forms
- Collect co-pays, payments, and balances as required by office policies
- Enter and apply patient payments to balances in the computer system
- Maintain and operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and computers
- Check patients in and out for scheduled appointments
- Answer incoming calls from patients and assist with scheduling needs
- Triage calls within the department
- Obtain and enter new patient demographics; update patient information as necessary to maintain billing accuracy
- Verify patient insurance information (coverage and deductible) using online tools or by contacting insurance companies
- Maintain compliance with all policies, procedures, and laws
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with high call volumes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Successful completion of a medical receptionist or related program, or 1 year of medical office experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA
