Patient Access Specialist

About the role
This is an entry-level, onsite role in Lewes, DE. The Patient Access Specialist performs admission duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital, ensuring compliance with organizational mission, goals, and regulatory requirements.
- Assign accurate Medical Record Numbers (MRNs)
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide proper patient instructions and collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Utilize overlay tools while delivering excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey
- Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
- Adhere to policies and provide compassionate customer service
- Meet point-of-service goals as assigned
- Pre-register patient accounts, including inbound/outbound calls to obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information
- Collect point-of-service payments and past-due balances, including setting up payment plans
- Explain and obtain signatures for general consent for treatment forms and other required documents (e.g., Important Message from Medicare, MOON form, ABN)
- Review insurance eligibility responses and enter benefit data to support billing processes
- Screen medical necessity using Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software for Medicare patients
- Distribute and document designated forms and pamphlets
- Conduct quality audits of accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with audit standards
- Provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- CRCR Certification (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) required within 6 months of hire (company-paid)
- 1+ years of customer service experience preferred
- Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI-driven process improvements

Pay
$17.00 - $18.15/hour, based on experience.
