About the role
The Patient Access/Scheduler plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within Van Diest Medical Center. This position involves telecommunications, receptionist duties, and managing patient information.
Responsibilities
- Telecommunications from within and outside the clinic
- Directing patients, visitors, and others to the appropriate areas
- Obtaining and entering all demographic and insurance information from patients prior to their service
- Entering correct information into the scheduling software
- Verifying insurance and gathering correct preauth information
- Obtaining and communicating pre-service payment information (co-pay, co-insurance, deductibles) to Patient Access staff before service is rendered
- Referring non-insured patients to the financial counselor to set up payment arrangements prior to services
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED required
- Must be able to speak, hear, and understand the English language
- Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain a high level of alertness
- Pass the Certified Patient Account Tech (CPAT) exam within 18 months of hire
- Minimum of 2 years computerized data entry experience required
- Reception or clerical experience at a healthcare setting is preferred
- Knowledge of health insurance regulations and requirements is preferred
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel, e-mail, and internet/web searches is preferred
- Average typing speed of 35 words per minute is preferred
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and public is required

Pay
The Patient Access/Scheduler position is offered on a 9 FTE basis, with four 8-hour shifts and one 4-hour shift weekly. Shifts rotate Saturdays once a month from 8am-12pm.
