Patient Access Scheduler - Webster City Clinic, Full Time

About the role

The Patient Access/Scheduler plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within Van Diest Medical Center. This position involves telecommunications, receptionist duties, and managing patient information.

Responsibilities

• Telecommunications from within and outside the clinic
• Directing patients, visitors, and others to the appropriate areas
• Obtaining and entering all demographic and insurance information from patients prior to their service
• Entering correct information into the scheduling software
• Verifying insurance and gathering correct preauth information
• Obtaining and communicating pre-service payment information (co-pay, co-insurance, deductibles) to Patient Access staff before service is rendered
• Referring non-insured patients to the financial counselor to set up payment arrangements prior to services

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED required
• Must be able to speak, hear, and understand the English language
• Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain a high level of alertness
• Pass the Certified Patient Account Tech (CPAT) exam within 18 months of hire
• Minimum of 2 years computerized data entry experience required
• Reception or clerical experience at a healthcare setting is preferred
• Knowledge of health insurance regulations and requirements is preferred
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel, e-mail, and internet/web searches is preferred
• Average typing speed of 35 words per minute is preferred
• Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and public is required

Pay

The Patient Access/Scheduler position is offered on a 9 FTE basis, with four 8-hour shifts and one 4-hour shift weekly. Shifts rotate Saturdays once a month from 8am-12pm.
