About the role
The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients
- Verify patient insurance and benefits
- Pre-certify services
- Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
- Work under stress and meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and insurance companies
- Perform duties consistently with Mercy's mission, values, and service standards
Requirements
- 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- High School diploma required; some college helpful
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Qualifications
This position requires a strong organizational skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work under stress. Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems is also essential.
