About the role
The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of patient entrance into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients
- Verify patient insurance and benefits
- Pre-certify services
- Ensure accurate patient data entry
- Work under stress and meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and insurance companies
- Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers and Medicare guidelines
Requirements
- 1-3 years clerical experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- High School diploma required
- Some college education helpful
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledgeable with various computer systems
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Positive working relationships with all hospital staff and insurance companies
- Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
