Patient Access Representative (Non-Exempt)

About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of patient entrance into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits
  • Pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data entry
  • Work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and insurance companies
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers and Medicare guidelines

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required
  • Some college education helpful
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledgeable with various computer systems
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Positive working relationships with all hospital staff and insurance companies
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
