Patient Access Representative III - PAS Pre Service Center

Full time position at ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina. About the role

Responsible for creating the first impression of the organization's services to patients, families, and other external customers. Essential duties include performing all pre-arrival tasks related to the pre-registration and financial clearance process for both outpatient and inpatient services. This position collects proper demographic and financial data to ensure the hospital bill is paid by a third-party payer or the patient, verifies insurance eligibility, coordinates referrals, and secures authorization. Acts as the primary liaison for patients receiving professional and hospital services at ECU Health.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-arrival duties for pre-registration and financial clearance of outpatient and inpatient services.
• Collect and verify demographic and financial data to ensure accurate billing.
• Verify insurance eligibility, coordinate referrals, and secure authorizations.
• Act as the primary liaison between patients and ECU Health for professional and hospital services.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED (required).
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• 2 to 4 years of experience in registration, scheduling, and insurance authorization within a healthcare setting (required).
• 5 years of customer service experience (required).
• Excellent communication (written and oral), detail orientation, organization, and multitasking skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EPIC and medical office workflows.
• Insurance verification experience.
