About the Role

This position is responsible for welcoming patients and visitors, verifying patient information, and ensuring accurate and timely entry of patient demographics and insurance details into hospital systems to facilitate efficient patient flow.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and visitors, and escort patients as needed following customer service guidelines.
  • Verify patient identification and accurately assign/identify medical records.
  • Collect and verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and financial responsibility; enter data into hospital computer systems promptly.
  • Interview patients at bedside to facilitate timely and effective solutions.
  • Educate patients on financial responsibilities; identify self-pay patients and potential solutions.
  • Identify and collect all residuals using supporting tools and/or payment plans.
  • Maintain consistent knowledge and accurate use of hospital policies, department SOPs, supporting tools, software, and websites.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital and regulatory requirements, including consents, patient rights, HIPAA, ABNs, and health care proxies.
  • Meet performance standards for registration quality, collections, confidentiality, and customer service as established by Patient Access and Hospital leadership.
  • Collaborate effectively with co-workers within Patient Access and other hospital departments.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and employees to maintain a professional and courteous environment.
  • Recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external), utilizing interpreters when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers regarding cultural, value, belief, and age differences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • One to two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft applications, and navigating computer/software systems; ability to type quickly and accurately.

Skills

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of 3rd party and managed care systems.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
