Patient Access Representative - Full Time

About the role

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for our patients and therefore must represent Mercy with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and perform all duties in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. This role facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance, including pre-visit collection. The Patient Access Representative ensures the most accurate patient data is obtained and populated into the patient record.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service.
• Facilitate patient scheduling, registration, and financial clearance processes.
• Verify patient benefits and obtain pre-certification as required.
• Ensure accurate collection and entry of patient data into records.
• Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation agency requirements.
• Collaborate with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, and insurance companies.
• Perform duties with a high level of accuracy under deadlines and stress.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred.
• Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred.
• High School diploma required; some college helpful.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with excellent telephone etiquette.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with computer systems, including 10-key calculator and keyboard use.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
