About the role
Join our Sanford Patient Access team in the Emergency Department, a moderate to fast-paced environment supporting registration duties. As the first point of contact, you will provide extraordinary customer service and create a welcoming, safe environment for patients in person or on the phone. Strong attention to detail and the ability to shift easily between tasks are essential.
Schedule
- Part-time, 16 hours per week
- Shifts: Thursdays 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM and Fridays 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay
Salary range: $16.25 – $23.00 per hour
Responsibilities
Registration
- Greet patients and verify demographics
- Create, scan, and route documents or electronic forms
- Inform patients about documents and capture necessary signatures
- Establish and assign financial responsibility while adhering to policies and procedures
- Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances
- Work through the registration work queue to address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims
Scheduling
- Coordinate and schedule appointments with nursing teams and providers to meet patient needs
- Obtain and coordinate referrals and conduct pre-authorization
- Arrange interpreter services
- Check patients in and out
- Operate a multi-line phone system
- Resolve work queue issues, manage recall and waitlists, and serve as a switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers
Additional Duties
- Prepare and coordinate charts
- Organize supporting provider documents
- Initiate and collaborate on patient financial assistance
- Track patient visits and health information management on patient accounts
- Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessments
- Coordinate Telemed appointments
- Make reminder calls for appointments
- Handle hospital admissions
- Perform office duties such as making copies or sending faxes
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; post-secondary education helpful
- One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting
- Medical terminology knowledge helpful
- Customer service skills essential
- Six months of customer service experience desired
- BLS certification may be required for certain locations and/or settings
