Patient Access Representative, ED Evenings, 32 hrs/wk

About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits
  • Pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data entry
  • Work with insurance carriers and federal/state agencies

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required; some college helpful
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and perform tasks accurately
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with various computers systems
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Ability to push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties

Qualifications

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, and insurance companies

Skills

  • Knowledgeable about various computers systems
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
