Patient Access Representative - Admitting

Job Summary

Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Functions as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.

Pre-registers/Registers Patients

  • Accurately captures patient demographic and financial data
  • May register patients using various methods, depending on location
  • Collects patient balances, co-payments, co-insurance, or other payment types
  • Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, including obtaining prior authorizations and referrals as necessary

Responds to Customer Inquiries

Provides support and answers questions from patients and customers.

Manages Daily Appointment Schedules

  • Reminds patients of appointments via phone calls
  • Calls all referrals to ensure timely patient arrivals

Other Duties

Performs other tasks as assigned.

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma preferred, or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding (preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) (preferred)
  • Knowledge of insurance processes and regulations (preferred)
  • Ability to manage conflicts effectively and professionally
  • Excellent time management skills, emphasizing meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills

Department / Location Specific Notes

  • Southeast Alaska
  • Works with healthcare teams to obtain VA/Tricare or State of Alaska Medicaid authorizations for medical care and/or travel, including air or ground transportation and lodging/meals for patients and their escorts (if applicable).
  • Maintains logs for VA and/or State of Alaska travel authorizations and voucher usage.

Working Conditions

  • Operates computer and other office equipment
  • Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Sedentary work

  • Able to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
