About the Role

The Patient Access Representative ensures a positive initial patient experience by performing critical functions related to patient registration, clinical treatment, billing, and reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete quality registrations in the HIS system, maintaining demographic and financial integrity for every patient encounter.
  • Manage work processes to meet organizational and departmental expectations.
  • Verify and review insurance benefits and financial clearance for all payors at each encounter.
  • Collaborate with the Centralized Referral Center to ensure prior authorizations are obtained.
  • Research and resolve registration discrepancies related to demographic, clinical, and insurance accuracy.
  • Adhere to state and federal regulations, as well as system policies on compliance, integrity, and ethical registration practices.
  • Generate accurate patient estimate letters, attempt cash collection when applicable, and process patient payments for account posting.
  • Practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) in all customer/patient interactions.
  • Review medical orders for compliance with government and hospital guidelines and clinical protocols.
  • Complete clinical screenings for specified modalities to ensure patient safety.
  • Utilize computer systems efficiently to facilitate workflow processes.
  • Obtain insurance eligibility and benefit information from payors via phone, RTE, or web to provide patients with estimated financial responsibility.
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer, including reconciliation and deposit functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum:
    • High School diploma or equivalency.
    • One year of experience in healthcare access, customer service, and/or a financial setting.
  • Preferred:
    • Associate’s degree.
    • Three years of experience in healthcare access, customer service, and/or a financial setting.
