Patient Access Rep - PRN

About the role

The Patient Access Representative is a key role at Mercy, serving as the initial point of contact for patients. They are responsible for facilitating all aspects of patient entry into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all components of patient entrance into Mercy facilities
  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient insurance and benefits
  • Pre-certify patients for services
  • Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain high standards of care
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and regulatory requirements
  • Act as a mentor to other Patient Access Representatives

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Some college education helpful
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Knowledgeable with various computer systems and able to use a 10-key calculator and keyboard
  • Prolonged standing and walking required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting

  • Understanding of federal, state, and accreditation agency regulations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, physicians, and hospital staff
