About the role
A Patient Access Clerk is a specialized health care professional responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing of patient accounts and addressing patient inquiries regarding treatment and billing.
Responsibilities
- Verifying demographic patient information including address, phone number, insurance
- Obtaining pre-certifications and insurance authorizations for scheduled procedures
- Collecting co-pays, deductibles, and deposits
- Directing and escorting patients and visitors to designated locations
- Providing a resource for billing and payment inquiries
- Overseeing cashier responsibilities in posting payments and creating deposits
- Maintaining accuracy through provided vendor service and department policy
- Completing all required annual competencies
- Adhering to hospital procedures for outpatient orders
- Obtaining room assignments through provided vendor services and communicating admissions to appropriate nursing and clinical staff
Qualifications
- Education: Preferred high school diploma or GED
- Experience: Prior experience in healthcare environment and/or customer service preferred
- Skills: Working knowledge of computers and systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), money management skills, ability to communicate professionally, critical thinking, and problem-solving
