About the role

A Patient Access Clerk is a specialized health care professional responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing of patient accounts and addressing patient inquiries regarding treatment and billing.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying demographic patient information including address, phone number, insurance
  • Obtaining pre-certifications and insurance authorizations for scheduled procedures
  • Collecting co-pays, deductibles, and deposits
  • Directing and escorting patients and visitors to designated locations
  • Providing a resource for billing and payment inquiries
  • Overseeing cashier responsibilities in posting payments and creating deposits
  • Maintaining accuracy through provided vendor service and department policy
  • Completing all required annual competencies
  • Adhering to hospital procedures for outpatient orders
  • Obtaining room assignments through provided vendor services and communicating admissions to appropriate nursing and clinical staff

Qualifications

  • Education: Preferred high school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Prior experience in healthcare environment and/or customer service preferred
  • Skills: Working knowledge of computers and systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), money management skills, ability to communicate professionally, critical thinking, and problem-solving
