About the role

A Patient Access Clerk is a specialized health care professional responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing of patient accounts and serving as a point of contact for patients regarding their treatment and billing issues.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying Demographic patient information including address, phone number, insurance
  • Obtaining pre-certs and insurance authorizations for scheduled procedures
  • Collecting co-pays, deductibles, and deposits
  • Directing and escorting patients and visitors to designated locations
  • Providing a resource for billing and payment inquiries
  • Overseeing cashier responsibilities in posting payments and creating deposits
  • Maintaining accuracy through provided vendor service and department policy
  • Completing all required annual competencies
  • Adhering to Hospital procedure in regards to requirements for outpatient orders
  • Obtaining room assignments through provided vendor services and communicating admissions to appropriate Nursing and clinical staff

Qualifications

  • Education preferred: A high school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Prior experience in the healthcare environment and/or customer service is preferred
  • Additional skills/abilities: A working knowledge of computers and systems to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are necessary as well as money management skills
  • The ability to communicate in a pleasant, professional, concise, and caring manner
  • Critical thinking and problem solving to ensure the best care possible for our patients
