About the Role
A Patient Access Representative is responsible for patient registration, insurance verification, and appointment coordination in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Assigns Medical Record Numbers (MRNs), verifies medical necessity, provides patient instructions, and processes physician orders.
- Operates the switchboard, relays calls, and ensures excellent customer service with compassion.
- Performs quality audits to ensure account accuracy and completeness.
- Pre-registers patients, collects demographic and insurance details, and handles point-of-service collections.
- Explains consent forms, distributes patient education materials, and reviews insurance eligibility responses.
- Screens medical necessity using ABN software and distributes relevant forms.
- Performs additional duties as needed, including answering phones at other facilities.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to move freely and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work in a climate-controlled office, interacting with healthcare staff and patients.
- Frequent phone communication, with calls recorded for quality assurance.
Schedule
This role involves variable hours, including one weekend per month, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
