Patient Access Registrar - PRN

About the role

This position is cross-trained between the Richmond and Connersville locations and is responsible for registering patients for outpatient lab and radiology services. The role involves interacting with various stakeholders including patients, volunteers, physicians, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Completes Registration in Epic for outpatients
• Responds accurately and courteously to all customers
• Interviews patient, guarantor, and/or medical Power of Attorney to obtain and verify all required information
• Scans patient insurance card and photo ID into Encounter record
• Verifies Insurance and corrects errors using work queues
• Enters admitting/attending physician in Epic
• Prints armband and places on patient
• Prints labels and face sheets, if applicable
• Obtains necessary signatures based on patient's responsibility
• Collects Medicare Secondary Payer info from all Medicare Patients
• Asks Patient if they want to be listed in the Directory
• Greets Patient upon arrival
• Uses approved communication devices to communicate with management and/or fellow registrars
• Asks for co-insurance and/or deductible on applicable encounters
• Refers patients to Claim Aid if they need help with Medicaid or other government payors
• Opens cash drawers, collects patient payment, posts payments to correct accounts, and prints receipts
• Balances cash drawer at the close of shift as assigned
• Explains payment plans and financial assistance application process
• Calculates appropriate self-pay discounts when applicable
• Maintains a neat and orderly registration area

Requirements

High School Diploma is preferred. Must have good knowledge of all insurances, order transcription experience, and good people skills.
