Patient Access Coordinator

Reports to the Supervisor Patient Access Coordinator. Under indirect supervision, the Patient Access Coordinator offers individualized assistance to patients and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers and acts as a liaison between the patient and the hospital care team.

About the role

This role promotes informed decision-making and timely access to quality patient care while providing a vital link to communication between multidisciplinary providers during treatment planning. The Patient Access Coordinator performs specialized functions in advanced scheduling, including:

• Scheduling of all multidisciplinary and ancillary clinics across the enterprise
• Series scheduling and template management, including strategic overbooking and resource alignment
• Management of referral authorization processes
• Knowledge of financial and drug assistance resources
• Other complex scheduling methods

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized assistance to patients and caregivers to overcome healthcare system barriers
• Act as a liaison between patients and the hospital care team
• Schedule and coordinate complex follow-up appointments with accuracy
• Manage multiple assignments and projects efficiently under deadline pressures
• Exercise good judgment in decision-making and maintain confidentiality
• Work tactfully and diplomatically with individuals to enhance the office’s image

Requirements

• High school diploma and three years of related healthcare experience, or
• Associate’s degree and two years of related healthcare experience, or
• Bachelor’s degree and one year of healthcare-related experience
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Expertise in MS Outlook, including meeting and calendar functions
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Professional maturity, honesty, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Epic, medical office, or call center experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), or Administrative Professional Certification
