About the Role

Responsible for patient registration, scheduling, collections, and authorizations. Functions in a comprehensive coordination role combining duties of both a Patient Financial Counselor (PFC) and a receptionist for the clinic. The role requires customer-focused service for all individuals internal and external to the clinic, as well as maintaining positive work relationships to facilitate clinical and financial patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Reception of patients, including check-in, collecting co-pays and deductibles due at time of service, and verifying authorization if applicable.
  • Managing incoming calls and scheduling appointments, including follow-ups, diagnostics, treatments, and patient access.
  • Coordinating scheduling for patients to/from outside physicians, ensuring valid authorization is obtained before scheduled services.
  • Pre-registration and registration of patients, verifying demographics and insurance, and collecting payments at time of service while maintaining compliance.
  • Communicating with clinical staff to ensure no authorizations are missed.
  • Assisting in running the front desk and all patient intake into the clinic.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Medical Oncology Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical office.
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits, authorization processes, and contracting.
  • Ability to work independently, with strong organizational and communication skills, and adherence to established goals and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ICD-9/10 and CPT coding.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and private-payer practices and regulations.
