About the role

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for registering patients for any/all services at the hospital and/or clinic. This includes obtaining valid orders for services, maintaining paper and electronic documentation for identification, demographic data, insurance information, verifications and authorizations, and noting all accounts with visit details. The role also involves providing estimations for services and collecting copays, deductibles, and co-insurances. Teamwork is essential, including lunch coverage. Additional duties may be assigned based on facility needs and patient care requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Handles administrative and clerical functions of registration.
  • Registers all patients for hospital and/or clinic services.
  • Obtains valid orders for services and maintains documentation for identification, demographic data, insurance information, verifications, and authorizations.
  • Provides service estimations and collects copays, deductibles, and co-insurances.
  • Ensures accuracy in the registration process.
  • Maintains competency in hospital registration software and electronic medical records systems.
  • Registers patients in a timely manner while ensuring HIPAA compliance and adhering to all privacy laws and regulations.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to all patients.
  • Uses independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
  • Gathers and summarizes data for reports, finds solutions to administrative problems, and prioritizes work.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, software programs, and office equipment.
  • Understanding of billing and registration processes and terminology.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to comply with and understanding of privacy laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet use.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality with tact and diplomacy.
  • Analytic ability to gather and summarize data, solve administrative problems, and prioritize work.
