Patient Access Associate 1 Hospital

About the role

This is a full-time position with a day shift schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:30am–8:00pm, including rotation of holidays.

Responsibilities

• Work independently to complete assignments without close supervision.
• Improve inefficiencies and minimize repetitive errors by changing or enhancing workflow processes.
• Use a logical process to identify the cause of problems and develop appropriate solutions.
• Select an appropriate method of communication for audiences and adjust communication style when needed.
• Explain insurance benefits and patient liability using clear and effective communication methods.
• Apply knowledge of online payer verification systems to obtain and validate insurance information accurately and promptly.
• Coordinate with other departments to assist or transport patients and visitors requiring special attention or support.
• Interview patients to secure and document required medical, financial, demographic, and insurance information.
• Educate and assist patients with completing and submitting applications for alternative payment sources, including medical assistance programs, loans, and grants.
• Report safety hazards or violations and take appropriate action to protect the environment and guests until help arrives, if necessary.
• Communicate scheduling changes to patients, staff, physicians, and patient representatives in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1 year of customer service experience or 1 year of experience in a medical setting (Associate’s degree may substitute for experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of customer service experience or 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
