About the role

The Patient Access Advocate position is part-time night shift, working 2 shifts per week, which may include weekend rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients with a smile, answer the phone, enter information into the electronic health record, data base, and perform general clerical duties.
  • Update demographics, verify insurance, collect point of service payments, and document registration information.
  • Confirm account accuracy to ensure clean billing, collect payment, and perform follow-up activities.
  • Provide wayfinding assistance to patients and visitors, and assist with clerical duties like copying, scanning, and faxing documents.
  • Create and maintain patient files, answer and screen phone calls, take and direct messages, and provide information about the facility.
  • Ensure the front desk, waiting room area, and children's play area are clean and presentable.
  • Manage the work environment to maintain a friendly and respectful atmosphere.
  • Communicate with patients and their families in a customer-focused, reassuring manner to encourage return visits.
  • Follow HIPAA policies and procedures, and adhere to company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
  • Flexibility, effective communication skills, collaboration skills, patient/client focus, technical capacity, basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook), high school diploma or GED, 6 months of work experience in healthcare setting or one year customer service background, basic understanding of insurance, basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), exceptional communication skills and customer service, ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, write simple correspondence, add, subtract, multiply and divide, apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, deal with problems in standardized situations, manage conflict and appropriately request help from a supervisor when needed, daily focus on productivity standards, attend staff meetings and huddles as required, minimum of 1 year experience in medical office setting desired, familiarity with health insurance and insurance verification, knowledge and skills regarding all general office equipment, computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook), ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize multiple demands effectively, exceptional communication skills and customer service, solid work history, standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, sitting, talking and listening, lifting up to 10 pounds, routine use of standard office equipment, moderate noise exposure, non-exempt, scheduled based on operational need.
