About the role
Registers and accession specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS) accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper testing and charging of patient accounts while verifying accurate patient identification.
Examines and prepares biopsy and routine specimens for microscopic evaluation, providing a gross description of each case as defined in the surgical pathology manual.
Handles, stores, and disposes of surgical and autopsy tissue properly, adhering to regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety.
Orders departmental supplies and maintains adequate stock levels.
Responsibilities
- Registers and accesses specimens into LIS accurately and efficiently.
- Examines and prepares biopsy and routine specimens for microscopic evaluation.
- Performs proper handling, storage, and disposal of all surgical and autopsy tissue.
- Maintains supplies and instruments in the gross room.
- Orders departmental supplies and maintains adequate stock levels.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent within one year of hire.
- One year of grossing anatomical terminology knowledge.
Qualifications
- General computer skills.
