Pathologist Assistant (Per Diem)

About the role

The Pathologist Assistant assists the pathologist in various tasks related to surgical and autopsy pathology, including specimen preparation, photography, and data collection. This role requires a strong background in pathology and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Aids in the selection, preparation, and dissection of surgical tissue sections for examination.
• Collates clinical data and ensures accuracy of patient information.
• Prepares and embeds tissue for cryostat cutting and staining.
• Performs x-ray imaging and sends images to the PACS system.
• Maintains equipment, supplies, and cleanliness during gross anatomic dissections.
• Assists in teaching exercises and reports results accurately.
• Supports support staff and pathology residents with various tasks.
• Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a NAACLS accredited institution in Pathologists' assistant with relevant clinical training.
• U.S. or accredited foreign medical graduate (MD) with ASCP-PA certification and 5+ years of grossing experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences or a related field with 8-10 years of PA experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in computer systems, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

• Strong understanding of anatomic pathology, particularly surgical and autopsy pathology.
• Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic knowledge of pathology terminology and procedures.
